Thanks to CD 102.5, a local alternative (indie) station here in central Columbus, I was able to see a band that I thought I’d never get the opportunity to see, The Griswolds.
The band comes from Sydney, Australia which is why the concert was such a surprise to me. They played all of the songs off of their Heart of a Lion EP (four songs, all fantastic and a great mix of indie pop) and also a few songs off of their new album titled Be Impressive expected for release on August 26 including the single “Beware The Dog”.
Fortunately, I also got the opportunity to meet the lead singer (by meet I mean I got a picture with him, same thing right?) and the drummer (the one with the epic mustache).
The band was electric on stage, you could definitely tell that they love what the do for a living, you could tell they were having fun and they made sure the crowd was having fun too.
I can’t forget to mention the opening act Kid Runner, a great band that I once witnessed playing at a festival at a local mall. They caught my attention that day, and they caught it again today with an amazing preformance as well. They played songs off of their self titled EP, but what sealed the deal was the way they played; the band members played their hearts out and made sure to give a fantastic show.
I’m hoping to see them again this August at the Fashion Meets Music Festival in downtown Columbus. I can see both of these bands getting big, watch out for them and mark my words.
