Our favorite local vinyl label Soul Step Records is continuing its strong 2017 with a new 7” vinyl release from Nashville natives The Nobility.
The band has been active since 2001, and has since toured the country, received acclaim from NPR, and been featured in a children’s book.
The Nobility’s fourth record, Ashford Castle, was released last year and featured their biggest single yet, “Wonderful Night”.
With pounding drums and a catchy hook, the sound is familiar yet fresh, with even a bit of a barbershop harmony style vocals happening a third of the way through. This release is well timed – the song sounds like summer heat in the Midwest.
The 7” record also features a previously unreleased track, “Retrograde Amnesia”. The song is a pounding rock track, complete with a swirling synth and handclaps. Although catchy, it’s a little different from a traditional single, and therefore the perfect B-side.
This Soul Step release comes in a run limited to 100, with a delicious “salted caramel” color variant.
The idea came to Soul Step founder Melvin Dillon while eating dessert at the Cincinnati restaurant SOTTO. Other exclusive variants will be released, as well as a run of traditional black vinyl.
Make sure to become a Soul Step subscriber if you want to take advantage of this gem early, or the general public sale is on June 30.
