Cincy’s Soul Step Records release Fort Defiance pressing

2017 is off to a great start for Cincinnati based label, Soul Step Records.

(We previously featured them in November for their Sylmar release)

January saw the release of the label’s 16th pressing, a 45 inch gem from the Nashville duo, Fort Defiance.

Fort Defiance has a heavy Americana sound, with excellent harmonies and just the right amount of twang. This husband/wife duo really knows how to structure their sound and creates a great balance between the two vocal parts.

Side A features “Shadows Through A Canyon,” a song that’s upbeat but with an emphasized melancholy. The hook has an anthemic sound, with pounding drums to match. The song is back and forth between a quiet verse and loud chorus, creating a gorgeous and enticing contrast.

Side B includes the song “Warzone Serenade,” which sounds exactly as the title would suggest. With Jordan Eastman taking the lead on this song, it sounds perfectly haunting and seemingly defeated. A powerful harmonica comes over the hushed guitar at just the right times.

Although the notoriously gorgeous, exclusive Wax Mage variants are out of stock, you can pick up a copy of the single in a cool mint green on the Soul Step Records webstore. This edition is limited to 100 copies and they are selling quickly.

With even more records and events promised this year, Soul Step is going to bring the heat in 2017. Stay tuned by joining the subscription plan, or giving them a follow on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram with the handle @SoulStepRecords.
